Variations on a cup is a project I created during my residency at the Benyamini Contemporary Ceramics Center. These objects are malformations of a generic cup, trying to see how far I can distort the original shape while still maintaining some of its "essence". In my work I like to take an archetype and work with it as my material. A cup is a very familiar shape, an everyday object that we can all relate to.
In order to create this project I sketched hundreds of cup malformations. Once I selected my favorite sketches I started the 3D modelling process. Finally the objects are made by 3d printing using PLA material that resembles clay and gives an earthenware clay material feeling.
